EDAhub: Data Analysis for Investor Relations Communications
CMU MSAII Capstone Project, sponsored by BNY Mellon
This slide deck was presented on Dec 4th, our Capstone Plan Presentation Day — each team shared their understanding of the business value, technical requirements, and the plan for what to build next semester.
In the video recording, my team starts at 56:58.
About BNY Mellon
The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation was formed in 2007 through the merger of the Bank of New York and Mellon Financial. It is the largest bank in the world measured by assets under custody and administration, which total approximately $40 trillion.
Problem Statement
Traditional manual data analysis methods are time- consuming, labor-intensive, and prone to human error and fatigue. Analysts are simply swamped by the quantity of data available and do not have the time or memory to ingest all of it.
Capstone Objective
The goal is to create a comprehensive tool for efficient data understanding and analysis in the financial domain. The project involves building an AI system with three key functionalities.
Firstly, it focuses on automatic data summarization and Q&A, extracting information from financial statements and enabling users to interactively query documents for succinct, reliable answers.
Secondly, an automated Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) function to analyze tabular data, providing initial insights and generating visualizations based on user requests.
Lastly, the system will facilitate the comparison and analysis of differences across documents, such as financial reports for the same company at different times or reports for different companies simultaneously.
My Role as Product Manager
My responsibilities extend beyond defining product features and requirements. I am committed to fostering a collaborative and motivated team environment ensuring that everyone is aligned with the project goals and has a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities. Continuing on to the next semester, my role includes defining clear product requirements, prioritizing features based on user needs and business goals, and maintaining a cohesive product roadmap. I will conduct market research to stay informed about industry trends, gather user feedback for the team to iterate on the product, coordinate with my teammates and our capstone stakeholders to drive the product to meet and exceed customer expectations.
