WearAbout: Home-Location Monitoring for Seniors with Alzheimer’s

UC San Diego ECE 150 Course: Entrepreneurship for Engineers

Product Description —

The WearAbout system is a collection of hardware pieces and software that work together to make a home monitoring system. The hardware pieces consist of 5 given RFID tags and a wristband, while on the software side is our mobile application.

RFID (radio frequency identification) readers use electromagnetic fields to identify a particular detected tag. The 5 given tags (more can be purchased) would be used to be attached to doors and entryways to different rooms within an indoor space which would be recognized by the radio receiver on the wristband worn by the patient.

Meanwhile, the WearAbout wristband will signal to the mobile application to maintain a live update of the whereabouts of the individual wearing it or give an urgent alert when the wearer has exited the premises.

My Contribution —

As a member of the management team, I held the position of the CEO. I coordinated the organization of my team (I reached out to some fellow students and also set up the initial meeting for people who were interested). I designed the solution (the hardware products and the mobile application). I shared my idea with my team mates and we iterated until we were in accordance.
